Rally Collective: women’s padel in Fleet

In Fleet in Hampshire in southern England, a movement is growing that reaches far beyond regular match play. The Rally Collective, based at PADELHUB Fleet, is aimed specifically at women and creates a space where community, confidence and enjoyment of padel take centre stage. What began as a local initiative is already having a tangible effect both on court and in the everyday lives of its participants.

A community made for women

The mission of The Rally Collective is clearly defined: bring women together, build confidence, create friendships and foster fun on and off the padel court. The group offers a supportive environment in which every woman should feel encouraged, included and inspired to play – regardless of level.

Founder Jodie Packham describes the vision unambiguously. Every woman who enjoys playing padel should find a place to play. The Rally Collective is designed to bring women of all levels together so they can enjoy great matches, improve their game and become part of a friendly, supportive community. That ambition shapes the programme at the Fleet venue.

Free Saturday sessions and a first ladies-only tournament

On Saturday 18 July, The Rally Collective launched the first of four consecutive Saturdays of free women’s sessions. The sessions target players who want to play more regularly but struggle to find partners of a similar level or organised opportunities for women. Demand for such formats is clear in the booming padel market – and Fleet’s answer is practical.

According to Packham, the most striking moment came after the final point. Instead of rushing home, many participants stayed behind, swapping phone numbers, arranging future games and enjoying coffee together. For the founder, that is the heart of the initiative: letting new friendships form and making the social value of the sport visible.

Just two days earlier, The Rally Collective had organised its first ladies-only tournament. More than 30 women came to the club. The standard of padel was strong across all levels, but the sense of community stood out even more. Players encouraged one another, met new partners and simply enjoyed being part of something special.

Personal stories with a powerful impact

The mix of a welcoming atmosphere and regular match play is already changing the lives of individual participants. Grace says padel has been a godsend for her. After a cancer diagnosis in 2022 and surgery and chemotherapy from 2023 – with the final session planned for January 2027 – she went from being highly active to feeling depressed and anxious. Her lungs and stamina were badly affected; even climbing stairs or walking the dog was difficult.

A try at pickleball felt too slow. Then she spotted a padel session, tried it and loved it immediately. She has been hooked ever since. Her stamina and lung function are improving, and stair climbing is getting easier. She feels more alive and is grateful for the exercise and friendship padel has given her. Voices like hers underline that clubs and community formats can be far more than training offers alone.

Jo also describes padel as something of her own in a demanding daily life. The sport offers a chance to laugh, switch off from the daily juggle and spend time with a fantastic group of women. At the same time, padel links local sporting communities: through teammates from her walking football club, people are introduced to both sports. One sport opens the door to another and creates new friendships and opportunities. For Jo, community, confidence and fun come first – whatever your gender or age.

Jan, a player in her mid-60s, stresses the inclusive effect. Padel has been a great way to make new friends. As a woman of that age, she values being able to enjoy a sport spanning all age groups without feeling out of her depth. Anyone who has not tried it yet should get out there and give it a go: there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Next dates in Fleet

The Rally Collective already has further highlights planned. The next tournament takes place on Thursday 27 August at 7pm at PADELHUB Fleet. On Sunday 27 September, the Padel And Brunch format follows. The initiative is thus staying on course: low barriers to entry, clear women’s offers and a club environment in which sporting development and social bonds go hand in hand.

What clubs can learn from the example

For venue operators and clubs, Fleet offers a tangible model. Targeted women’s sessions, ladies-only events and a deliberate after-match culture – for instance through lingering together and networking – increase loyalty and return visits. Making it easier to find partners and mixing levels transparently closes a gap many new and returning players know well. The case also shows that padel can act as a health and social space without losing its competitive edge.
